France is the home of ‘casual chic’. And that was exactly what we were looking for when, with a group of enthusiastic family grape-growers in the ancient Languedoc region, we set out to create Le Grand Noir. A range of wines that would make perfect partners for a wide range of dishes, or to drink by themselves. Wines to serve at a dinner party or with a barbecue or a picnic on the beach.
Every bottle of Le Grand Noir comes exclusively from our land, tended by vignerons for over 2,000 years. What makes them unique is the care we take in marrying grapes from individual vineyards to produce wines that are always full of flavour, but never too powerful or alcoholic. And welcome everywhere.
For many wine lovers, what gives the best wines their own special character is the terroir – the mysterious mixture of soil, altitude and microclimate that is unique to every vineyard.
Every bottle of le Grand Noir is a Vin des Terroirs, bringing together grapes from vineyards that might be on steep, breezy hills or close to some of France’s sunniest beaches.
Le Grand Noir comes from ancient Southern French landscapes with a huge diversity of soils, altitudes and microclimates
Constant sunshine and cooling breezes from the Mediterranean and the ‘Black Mountains’ create wines with ripe flavours but moderate alcohol
Varied soils and altitudes allow us to grow Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Syrah, Viognier and Grenache in ideal conditions
We make our wines with a light touch. None of them is ever obviously flavoured by oak
